Some kind of Log
Blackhawk Down
A rainy sunday. Not out spending time in the sun, exploring, exhausting my body for monday morning, etc.
So what will I do? I’m going to create something right here, right now.
The thought this week was...seeing news about Orcas attacking boats and two Final Destination-eque plane crashes in the US. Apparently, the Orcas had gotten used to the peace in the ocean during the pandemic and started ramming boats afterwords for some kind of vengeance against humanity.
And all the dots connecting for me with all of these small occurences are that: Yeah guess what? A mid-air helicopter collision? Killer whales attacking boats? Planes falling from the sky? Take em’ all down. Like, what is so important that you are flying a blackhawk helicopter at night over the Potomac river?
And other thoughts regarding design...if the problem does not have to be solved in the first place, don’t make it a problem, and don’t solve it! If it ain’t broken don’t fix it.

The Tautness of Glass
And yet other thoughts yesterday, about the Tautness of glass.
It reminded me of this term that TF used over at Marvel. To describe a glazing wall that is so uniform and perfectly reflective, without any refractions or deformations. Taut- stretched, tensioned or pulled tight; not slack.

It was a word that I had not heard of in architecture, but now when I see a piece of glass or want to create this kind of cleanliness of glass, I think of this term.

No Burritos
I’ve put a hold on the little Noborito skatebox sidequest because, 1. they don’t allow more than one obstacle at the park 2. I will have to hide it somewhere (underground or behind a shed) 3. I know the area is prone to heavy flooding during the Typhoon season, as I saw the water up to waist high last year on site.

So come Spring if I feel like it, I may make a semi-waterproofed plywood box in the ground that will fit a skatebox, and probably be able to be covered up with shrubs and rocks.
Welcome to Dallas
There is a new project in Dallas, Texas that is a real project. A cluster of towers, and also maybe why I’ve been thinking about the tautness of glass.
I have a difficulty with working on conceptual projects, aka projects that are not going to be built.
But the possibility of building very practical and urbanistically progressive developments is interesting to me. At this stage in my design career, for Dallas, that is- I like the idea of proposing a solution of buildings for a site development that are so minimal, so simple and practical, economical- and save all of the money to make a really engaging street level experience. Something new.
Because the somewhat truth about downtown US cities like Dallas is- people don’t really care about architecture that much. And if you try to make a well designed building, it might just be seen as another fancy condo development.
So just let it be normative- let it fade into the background in a very subtle yet expressive way. Let it be white, and let it be creative, but not overly so.
Fuji Rock - Yamanakako Edition
I got an idea of where I’m going next weekend.
Over and out-
