As a facade renovation for an existing 7 story building on 14th Street in New York City, the architectural intervention is an operation of reskinning and maintaining the crucial structural bones behind this cosmetic makeover. The structural pier walls at the sides remained, while new steel was placed midspan between them.
The owner asked for a glassy facade and over the course of several weeks we arrived at the design of a custom profiled aluminum mullion cap.
An Aluminium Profiled Facade
As profiled facades became increasingly popular in the recent decades, we set out to design a profile that would make the building stand apart from the rest on 14th Street, eventually ending on a gold-coated aluminum frame with a doubly curved corner piece.
