NYC Plaza Project

The NYC Plaza Project is a research project to explore the potential of outdoor meeting and coworking spaces during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The project investigates a new urban model for wifi accessible plazas, solar powered modular benches with outlets, bike parking, and street-side seating.

Throughout New York, a number of open streets had arisen during the pandemic. How could we best capture these moments of relief from vehicular traffic and create a string of public hubs with wifi and seating that interconnect people socially through biking and pedestrian alleys.

The real experiement of these public spaces would be to encourage a “work-from-anywhere” mentality. On a temperate day, you could work from a plaza (or not) and meet other locals who are in the neighborhood.
